Demandbase audit

Demandbase is supposed to show you which accounts are in-market and focus sales effort where it will land. This audit tells you whether it's doing that - or running quietly in the background while pipeline comes from somewhere else.

Sound familiar?

  • Sales doesn't act on the intent signals - the accounts the platform surfaces don't match what they're hearing in conversations.
  • ABX campaigns were budgeted and built. Pipeline from them is hard to trace.
  • Your "active ICP account" list keeps growing. Engagement doesn't.
  • You're not sure whether Demandbase is driving pipeline or just reporting on accounts sales would have worked anyway.
  • The contact database is full of records from years of CRM imports. Almost none of them show any engagement.

What the audit tells you

Account engagement reality

What your ICP accounts are actually doing - not what the platform labels as "active" - and how many accounts on your target list have shown any meaningful signal in the past 90 days.

Campaign execution

Whether your ABX campaigns are reaching ICP accounts and spending budget - or sitting configured and ended with $0 delivered and no accounts touched.

List integrity

Whether your target account list is a forward-looking universe of high-potential accounts - or populated primarily by historical CRM data including accounts that have already been through a sales cycle and lost.

Intent signal quality

Whether the intent events Demandbase is surfacing represent real buying behaviour - or low-value noise like geographic keyword signals that generate activity counts without engagement value.

Contact-level activation

Whether the platform is being used for person-level ABX - reaching specific individuals at target accounts - or purely as account-level display advertising with a contact database that never gets activated.

What to fix first

Findings ordered by commercial impact: list integrity and campaign execution first, intent calibration second, contact activation and CRM workflow after.

Found in real audits

Recent findings from delivered audits, anonymised.

79%

Of "active ICP accounts" had 0–10 engagement points in the previous 90 days. A single anonymous page view was enough to qualify as active. The engagement threshold had never been calibrated.

ABX campaigns that spent $0 - budgeted, built, and ended without reaching a single account. The campaigns existed; the execution hadn't happened.

Contacts in the platform with meaningful 3-month engagement. The contact database was a CRM export - not an active pool. The programme was running at account level, not person level.

Frequently asked questions

What is a Demandbase audit?

An independent review of whether your Demandbase setup is actually driving the ABX programme it's supposed to underpin. It checks whether your target account list is forward-looking or populated by historical CRM data, whether ABX campaigns are reaching and engaging ICP accounts, whether intent signals are real buying behaviour or low-value noise, and whether sales is getting actionable information or a list of accounts that look busy but aren't.

Sales doesn't trust the intent signals. Is that a Demandbase problem or a sales problem?

Usually both - but the audit tells you which. In one engagement, 13,949 "intent events" were showing in Demandbase's activity feed with a combined engagement score of 0.24 points - near-zero value that was inflating the appearance of account activity without representing any real buying signal. When sales said the leads weren't warm, they were right.

Our ABX campaigns are running. How do we know if they're actually working?

Running and delivering are different things. One audit found that 69% of configured ABX campaigns had spent $0 - budgeted, built, and ended without reaching a single account. The campaigns existed in the platform; the execution hadn't happened. The audit traces what was planned against what actually ran and what those campaigns produced.

What do you need from us?

Read-only access to your Demandbase account (accounts, contacts, campaign report, site analytics) and your CRM so the ICP account list can be reconciled against pipeline and opportunity stage. Nothing is changed - the audit reads, evidences and prioritises.
